Van Insurance

Stay on the road with Next Step Van Insurance

What is Van Insurance?

Van insurance provides financial protection if your van is involved in an accident, stolen, or suffers damage.
You can choose from different types of cover based on how you use your van—whether for personal or business purposes.

Which Type of Van Insurance Cover Is Right for You?

Van insurance—sometimes referred to as commercial or business van insurance—is essential for keeping your operations running smoothly.
Next Step Insurance offers four levels of cover to suit how you use your van:

What's covered?

Social
Ideal if you’re using your van solely for personal journeys and not commuting to work. This cover suits those who enjoy leisure activities that need extra space, like surfing or fishing.

Social and Commuting
If you use your van for everyday travel and commuting to a single place of work, this cover is for you. It includes both personal use and daily work travel.

Own Goods
Designed for tradespeople such as builders, electricians, plumbers, and others who rely on their van for business. It also suits professionals who travel between multiple work sites—like social workers or teaching assistants.

If you carry tools, equipment, stock, or merchandise, consider adding our  Vehicle Contents Cover (formerly Goods and Tools). This upgrade offers enhanced protection for your van’s contents against theft or damage—similar to Goods in Transit insurance.

Carriage of Goods for Hire and Reward
If you use your van to deliver items on behalf of others, you’ll need this level of cover. It’s the best option for couriers, delivery drivers, or furniture movers earning income by transporting third-party goods.

Black Box Van Insurance

Van drivers can now take advantage of Next Step’s smart LittleBox technology, offering all its benefits — including complimentary theft tracking.

Take charge of your coverage with discounted renewal premiums for safe driving. Van owners can now benefit from Next Step’s LittleBox technology – complete with free theft tracking.

Whether you’re using a compact van for deliveries or a larger one for moving furniture, fitting a black box can help you get on the road with more affordable insurance.

Van insurance can be costly—especially for younger or new drivers. At Next Step, our LittleBox for Van aims to make cover more accessible and budget-friendly.

What is Black Box Van Insurance?

Also known as telematics insurance, black box van insurance involves installing a discreet device in your van. This device monitors your driving habits—such as speed, braking, and overall behaviour—to generate a driving score.

The safer you drive, the better your score—and that can lead to lower premiums at renewal. LittleBox puts you in control, giving responsible drivers a chance to earn fairer and potentially lower insurance costs. If your driving score is low, however, you may not receive a renewal discount.

Why Choose Next Step Van Insurance with Black Box?

Free Theft Tracking
Every active LittleBox policy includes Theft Tracking at no extra cost. If your van is stolen, simply report it with a crime reference number, and our claims team will coordinate with the police to help recover your vehicle.

No Mileage Limits
You’re in control of your mileage. Set your own annual limit—as long as it’s over 1,000 miles per year.

Cover for All Van Sizes
We insure a wide range of vans—from compact models to transits and larger vans up to 3.5 tonnes. We also provide cover for electric vans up to 4.25 tonnes.

Is Black Box Van Insurance Right for You?

While black box insurance is popular with younger or newly qualified drivers, Next Step’s telematics van insurance is available to any safe driver looking to lower their premium—regardless of age.

Young drivers often face higher premiums due to increased risk, but a black box gives you the opportunity to prove you’re a responsible driver.

Our van telematics system monitors how and when you drive, among other risk factors, to calculate your overall driving score. A higher score could mean a lower renewal premium.

Drive Anytime—But With Awareness
You’re free to drive at any time with LittleBox, but frequent late-night driving (between 10pm and 4am) can negatively impact your score, which may reduce your renewal discount. If overnight driving is a regular part of your routine, this type of policy might not be the best fit.
